Care is Our Duty

Annual report 2023

On behalf of my Team at COUNSENUTH, I would like to sincerely, extend our special appreciation to the Embassy of Ireland in Tanzania through Irish Aid for their unwavering, long-term support of COUNSENUTH’s Vision and Mission. We hope that this support has also advanced your Development Goals for improved health, nutrition, gender rights and climate change resilience building in Tanzania. Without the Irish Aid support, COUNSENUTH would not have become what it is today; and it may not have reached 26 years today. Please continue to see COUNSENUTH as your best investment in Tanzania.

I also sincerely thank the Mastercard Foundation for their financial support to the Kijana Jiongeze Project, through which we have been able to empower over 40 interns who are new graduates from universities, to gain leadership and employment skills through this project, while they in turn have empowered over 9,000 youths in 23 Secondary schools to gain life skills, study skills, self-awareness and significantly improve their school performance especially for girls. Our wish is to extend and expand this highly needed project in Tunduru and many other parts of Tanzania.

I thank you too, Catholic Relief Services, COUNSENUTH’s long-term partner in Mbeya and Kigoma. Through our partnership, we have given and gained much learning and achieved good results together. We also thank UNICEF which has been behind some of this partnership through their valuable financial support. Let me also thank the UZIKWASA and VI Agroforestry and JHPIEGO, our new partners.

I would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Ocean Road Cancer Institute (ORCI) for the long-term partnership. Through this intervention, COUNSENUTH has supported thousands of needy patients and their families and as our MOTTO is “Care is Our Duty”, this has been one of the most satisfying engagements of COUNSENUTH, and we thank you for this wonderful collaboration.

I would also like to take this opportunity to appreciate the dire support and guidance we have been receiving from the government specifically, I would like to thank district authorities in Chemba DC in Dodoma, Tunduru DC in Ruvuma Region, Mbeya Region, Kigoma Region and Dar Es Salaam. Many thanks to the communities, extension workers, community volunteers, community leaders, women, children, men and youth of those regions. Looking back to the year 2023, we have touched many groups, and many have supported us on the way to achieving COUNSENUTH’s Strategic Goal of Tackling Climate Change Impact and Gender Disparities to Achieve Optimal Nutrition in Tanzania.

Lastly, the commitment of our Board of Directors, Members and staff cannot go unnoticed as the drivers of the modest changes happening on the ground. I recognise and highly appreciate their teamwork and volunteer spirit that has been the result of the sustained transformation manifested in the 25 years of COUNSENUTH.
