Executive Summary
The Centres’ projects and programs implemented are aligned to the Government of Tanzania’s NMNAP II goal of addressing the triple burden of malnutrition and strengthening enabling environment. Through various projects, efforts to strengthen Local Government Authorities and its systems the Centre continued to facilitate the Local Governments to integrate projects initiatives and the NMNAP II goals into their Council Plans to facilitate sustainability.
In this reporting period, the Centre implemented the following projects
Lishe Kijinsia Dodoma Program:
Lishe Kijinsia is community-based gender-driven nutrition program implemented in Chemba DC, Dodoma. The program aim to reduce childhood stunting by at least 5% from 37.7% and contribute to evidence-based learning and documentation of the role of gender equality in improving maternal, infant, young child and adolescent nutrition. The program is in its 5th year of implementation through the financial support of the Irish Aid.
Key Interventions: Promotion of optimal behaviors for improving MIYCAN; WASH; improved Dietary Diversity for U5s and pregnant women; TRLA, enhancing life skills in primary schools for improved sexual and reproductive health and healthy lifestyles.
Key beneficiaries: women of reproductive age, pregnant and lactating women, children under five years, and men (spouse or fathers of 1000days beneficiaries).
Other key people: community health workers, health facility workers, community leaders, extension workers, teachers and students and existing national infrastructure.
Kijana Jiongeze II Program
Kijana Jiongeze II is a 2-years program funded by MasterCard Foundation, implemented in collaboration with the Department of Secondary Education under Tunduru DC, in Ruvuma region. The program seeks to improve performance of students in Tanzanian secondary schools foremost to school completion with better grades and transition to the next level of education. Kijana Jiongeze II is a progeny of success and lesson learnt from the Kijana Jiongeze I, a 1-year (2019 – 2020) pilot project implemented in 8 secondary schools in Tunduru DC, also funded by MasterCard Foundation. Currently the program has been scale-up to all 23-public secondary schools in Tunduru DC. The program also aims to enhance employability of youth through gainful involvement of unemployed university graduates as facilitator interns.

Key beneficiaries: Secondary school students, with more focus on girls.
