HERE IS HOW WE BUILT CHANGEMAKERS VILLAGES IN

CHEMBA DISTRICT

It’s estimated that 3 million children under five years of age are stunted in Tanzania, this is according to the Tanzania Nutritional Survey of 2018. This is more than the whole population of Namibia, the national stunting average stood at 31.8 percent. Some districts have had even far worse experience above the national average, one of those districts is Chemba with 37.7 percent of it’s under 5 children stunted.

Seen at a glance, many actors mistakenly assume this is just a food security problem, but it’s more than that. The problem runs deep into the way society is structured. In 2016, COUNSENUTH in collaboration with the Archbishop James University College (AJUCO) conducted an in-depth analysis of the barriers to achieving desired health and nutrition outcomes in health-promoting programs by assessing one of its Irish Aid-supported Programs-Lishe Ruvuma. The study found out that gender disparities were among significant barriers to the achievement of optimal health outcomes. An image below shows some of the gender factors identified by the study:
